STEVE IRWIN TRIBUTE PACKAGE

  Valid for travel 02 SEP 2022 - 05 SEP 2022
3 or 4 nights      Winton, QLD

In 1990 John Stainton filmed a television commercial at the Qld Reptile & Fauna Park in Beerwah Qld. He engaged the owner of the Zoo’s son Steve Irwin to assist by wrangling a crocodile for the filming. John & Steve became best friends and went on to make some 350 hours of television and movie productions together over the next 15 years. Their first television documentary “The Crocodile Hunter” for the TEN NETWORK in 1992 was instantly a huge success and they were commissioned to follow up immediately with another program.

John decided to make the next episode in the outback on Aussie animals to broaden the appeal of the documentaries outside crocodiles. He chose Winton for the base camp of the shoot and they filmed there a number of times over the years. The series went on to capture the attention of the whole world and Steve became a household name in most countries and the top program on the US Discovery Network, ANIMAL PLANET.

In 2002 John & Steve made their first movie for MGM “COLLISION COURSE” and were in the process of planning a 3D IMAX movie for Warner Bros. when Steve tragically died in 2006.

2022 is the 30th anniversary of Steve & John filming their second episode of The Crocodile Hunter in the Winton area in 1992. 2022 is the 20th anniversary of the release of COLLISION COURSE their 1st Hollywood Movie. 2022: 4th September 2006 is the day Steve died on Batts Reef off Port Douglas.

So, with 3 significant milestones – the start of The Crocodile Hunter in 1992, the Movie release in 2002 and Steve’s tragic death ion the 4th of September 2006 we couldn’t think of a better town than Winton to host a tribute weekend to Steve Irwin: 2nd to 5th Sept 2022.
